The Cellars of Diocletian's palace

(ID: AR-1805)

Opis ponude

Visit the Meereen’s throne room and dungeons where Daenerys kept her dragons in „Game of Thrones“, the largest city of the Slayer’s Bay. The throne room and big dungeons where the three dragons breathed fire are actually ancient cellars of the Roman palace – the Cellars of the Diocletian's palace. What You saw in the episodes are genuine remains of the 1700+ years old Cellars built by the Roman emperor Diocletian, a remnant of the ancient past under a modern city.

Through the times the Cellars had various roles, from sea entrance to the palace and food storage to people housing.

Today, the cellars are open to the public and are full of life.

They regularly host painting and sculpture exhibitions, theatre plays, fairs like the International Flower Fair, gastronomic and oenological presentations, and many other social and cultural events. Many areas of the basement reveal a labyrinthine room layout, ideal for an archeological discovery. The central hall, representing the main communication line between the Riva and the Peristyle, is a place to buy valuable souvenirs, and the rest of the Cellars is open for sightseeing as one of the greatest attractions of Split, frequently, besides Peristyle, a synonym for Diocletian's Palace.

The Cellars can be seen as a part of few tours in Split:
