Kastelanac wine and olive oil tasting on island Šolta

(ID: AR-1154)

Opis ponude

Agroturizam Kaštelanac has become inevitable stop in Šolta for gastro tourists and those who are yet to become ones. We are more than a small family-run vinery: we offer a completly presentation of our homegrown products, wine and olive oil. Our wine story dates back in 1762, when our ancestors produced Dobričić wine in more traditional and kind of rough way. Since than up to the present our hard work and patience gave us this incredible wine story inspired by the desire to preserve our local wine sort Dobričić.

But there is so much more than just wine to discover in our konoba. We are also very proud of our extra virgin olive oil (golden awarded!) and green and black olives that we produce.

So if You decide to pay us a visit in our traditional dalmatian konoba in Gornje Selo we will prepare You a degustation based on olives, olive oil and traditional dalmatian flavours. Homebaked bread, olive tapenadas, salted anchovies and olives rounded by a few glasses of Dobričić wine sounds invinting, doesn't it?

Dobričić is an ancient red wine variety, authentical sort that grows in the island of Šolta. It is definitely one of the significant indigenous red wines of Dalmatia since it was the variety that was crossed with Crljenak Kaštelanski (the rest of the world knows that variety as Zinfandel) to produce the most famous  grape in Croatia – Plavac Mali. The sort has been grown on the island since the ancient times, but the expansion happened with the revitalization of the sort which started in 2005 – the sort almost died (until 2005 there were only about 15.000 grapevines and today there is over 150.000), but with the efforts and investment made by the Municipality of Šolta, the sort continued and few families on the island have devoted in making excellent wine in limited quantities. Nowdays it grows mostly on Šolta, but it can also be found in some other parts of Central Dalmatia. Dobričić grapes give extremely dark red, almost purple wine, and sometimes it’s still called “the darkest wine of Dalmatia”. The varietal wine is low in alcohol, as it doesn’t produce much sugar, and extremely low in acids. The tannins are rather high and the wine tastes  sour-cherry-bitter. In the past it was rarely made into varietal wine, but was used to give colour to blends with other red wine varieties that had less distinct colouring, but our family proved the opposite. With our love for the wine production we had been able to show that Dobričić gives excellent varietal wine that we are so proud of!

The legend says that Dobričić was known around the Europe and even served on the Viennese Court, in Czech and even in France.  The thickness and distinct tannin in the wine gave Dobričić a label of food, even cure for the residents of Šolta Island.
